e-MDs Life Tip#8: Two Keys For Every Occasion
e-MDs Life Tip #8 : Two Keys For Every Occasion
When I look around, basically I see that half the people in the world are making good progress in what they want to do and the other half are floundering around trying to figure out what is going on! We each have the ability to choose which group we want to be in.
If you want to be a person who makes good progress, as well as a person who knows how to make wise decisions, there are two things that you can look for that will always reward you.
The first thing to look for is experience. Whenever you are trying to find out what is going on in a situation, find someone who has actually had some experience in that particular area. If you talk to someone who has gone through the situation themselves, they will be in a much better position to give you guidance. I have discovered that people who have experience are able to talk with a depth of understanding that others are not. Those who only understand situations from book knowledge or from a theory that they were taught in school, do not possess the same level of understanding. Experience is a wonderful teacher! I would rather have information from someone who has gone through an experience than from someone who may be well-versed in the situation but who has never personally walked through it themselves. There is major wisdom in the way a person with experience can share insights with you and give you solid counsel.
I have been part of a men’s fellowship group for many years where one of the most important guidelines is that you are only allowed to share out of your own personal experience. When someone begins to tell what they read in a book or what they heard from a friend, they are usually stopped and encouraged to share only out of their experience. Everyone has advice and their own opinions. I have painfully discovered that the only thing that really makes a difference is personal experience.
The second valuable guideline is fruit. What is the actual fruit that you have seen come about as a result of a particular situation? It is very true that you can judge a tree by the fruit that is hanging on it. If I see something that has oranges hanging all over its limbs, I tend to think it is an orange tree. The fruit bears witness to what the tree is all about.
If you look at a person’s life, you will see their fruit. If it is filled with one disaster after another, then it is likely that you are dealing with an unwise person. I honestly think that fruit tends to be one of the very best ways you can discover what is actually going on. Look at the fruit of the decisions that were made. If the resulting fruit is love, joy, peace and happiness in your life and the life of others, then the steps that were taken were probably correct. But, if bitterness, hatred, resentment and conflict are the fruit, then those steps were disastrous. Fruit is a great indicator that can give us guidance in what we do.
I would encourage you to raise those two issues to the very top of your thinking level. When you look for experience and fruit, you will always be in a better position to understand what is going on and how to evaluate it. I have found that those two factors are helpful for me and I guarantee they will be helpful for you as well.
